Once there was a forest, that had only one tree. One you say? Why yes. I know, a forest would have to have lots of trees and things, but this one was special.

One day a fox was hunting for some food. Delicious food that he wanted to fill his stomach on for his journey. Nothing too special. Maybe something juicy.

He then walked through an open field and in the center of that field was a tree. It was a happy tree. He could tell, because it's branches stretched towards the sky, like he was appraising it's beauty. And what happened to be on that tree was a bird, a very fine bird. It was red with a black beak. He looked a bit cocky with his chest sticking out as he sung a tune.

"Silly bird," the fox thought, "If only I can catch him." The tree branches were a bit too high for him to reach.  "Ah well, I prefer rabbits. They're a lot funner to catch." And off he trotted.

"I say old chap, don't you want to eat me?" the bird asked. The fox stopped in his tracks.
"Why no... the thought never crossed my mind." And the fox moved along again.
"I'm sure I'd taste good if you added ketchup. Apparently people talk about it these days."
"People, you mean humans?" The fox corrected him.
"Why yes, same thing," the bird tweeted.
"Well, anyways, I better be going." He pretended to look around for any food, while clearly there was hardly anything to be seen.
"Oh do stay! I like company. I can sing you a song." the bird pattered his tiny feet upon the dead bark.
"Oh... really you don't have to do that."
"OH SIIIIING THEE LOVE TO SLEEEEEEP! WHILE YOU ARE BREATHIIING!"
"Oh bloody, not now," the fox thought. The bird was practically screeching his little heart out.
"AND WHILE YOU SLEEEEEEEP! THE WORLD IS THIIINKING!!!"
"Maybe if I just quietly walked away, he won't notice." He decided to walk around the tree, in order to make a getaway.
"Oh no! Please don't leave. The best part hasn't even come now."
"Look Bird, I'm not interested in hearing any singing. I prefer hunting."
"Oh right! Right! You wanted to eat me."
    "I didn't say that."
    "Hmph! You certainly thought that!"
"Well I didn't okay, I was going to leave."
    "Fine then, hmph!"

And off he flew.

The fox walked on for a few miles. Nothing yet to be found.
"I hope I didn't hurt the little bugger. After all, he seemed to just want to be friends." He thought.

And behold.... movement. Out in the grass, he spotted it. Food. Yes, fluffy food. The juicy kind. It was nibbling on a clover. It had dark hollow eyes, and long ears. It was his favorite dish. But ah, he wouldn't startle it. He'd duck into the grass, and wait. It was chewing now, on the clover. It's nose twitched.

Stillness.

Then, it dashed! As well as the fox. For it had sensed his presence. Closer and closer he was to his prey. Vver and under tree branches and roots. The fox never lost sight of the creature. He was a desperate hunter, that he was. Until suddenly he heard a gun shot.

It didn't bother him the first time, but the second time startled him. He had heard of those noises before. It was the sound of the human hunters. He stopped in mid track and kept down. Humans were to be feared around these parts. They seemed to be after animals with fur and meat, like himself. He kept hidden behind a large tree.

Out of the nowhere, was a boy. Not much of a man, but he had a menacing look on his face. He looked around and gave a small pout. "I almost had him." He said. Then he wondered off elsewhere.

"I better go into hiding, apparently this human is after me!" The fox thought.

"Help, Help! I'm being assaulted!" He heard a voice cry. That voice sounded awfully familiar.
"Really boy, must you choose salt? Why not ketchup?" Yup, it was that one bird. He walked towards the chirping, and there was that half man/half boy again. Indeed he was "salting" him.
"Ah here is my friend! See he is salting me, and wanting to eat me, now my dear friend please help me."
The young man was squeezing the bird in his right hand, and in the other he held a jar of salt.
"Shut up birdy, I like my food raw, and I'd rather not have it talk- Woah blimey!" The young lad suddenly noticed the fox standing there. "I was looking fer you! I almost caught ya back there!"
"Now see here," started the fox, "You put that bird down... or I... will have to stop you by force."
"Oh certainly you could do better than that," replied the bird.
"Okay... um. Grrrrr" He let out a mild growl. That was good enough. The human backed away, but he still had the bird in hand. "Nice, foxey... if you're good, I'll give you something to eat... like this birdie."
"That's what I'm trying to save you dimwit!" barked the fox.
"Blimey!" The man dropped the bird and fled.
"Hahahaha! that'll teach 'im," cried the bird, chirping in triumph. "Thanks old chap."
"Don't... mention it." He openly let the bird sit himself on his back.
"We could be a team ya know? Like friends? And we could teach those humans a lesson!"
  "Yeah yeah" he trotted on.
"And you never planned on eating me, did ya?"
  "Well..."

The end...
My friend ---> :iconpeguin-pirate: Jessie, aka Tine, told me to write something one night. I was very tired but I didn't want to go to sleep. She said that I should write a story about a fox and a bird, and this is what I came up with within an hour or so. It could use some improvement, but anyways, enjoy!

EDIT

My friend did an illustration! check it out!
